Hello!

My name is David Carcasole, I’m a writer and games journalist who currently writes for PlayStation-focused website, PlayStation Universe - PSU.com. There, I write news, reviews, previews, the odd guide, interview developers and edit reviews all on PlayStation-related topics.

Welcome to this, my folly, a Substack where I intend to write about music, movies, tv, theatre, video games and art in a no-holds-barred fashion that I think is fitting and respectful to the works discussed and their creators. All mixed in with some spicy opinions to make it fun.

I call this my folly because the history of the internet and its modern landscape shows that what’s important about writing on the internet is, not actually the writing at all. It’s whether or not you know how to stay within Google’s good graces, as unstable as those graces can be. To go a step further, the modern landscape of the internet shows I shouldn’t be writing at all, I should in fact be leaning how to edit video, do a Tik Tok dance, and perfect my social media reactionary hot takes to become viral content. Lacking that, anyone who wants to make it as a writer and a critic could potentially create something stable with an army of subscribers paying for their work on a monthly basis. Maybe it’s just me, but the only successful examples of that I see are people who already had the army of followers who easily transitioned to being paying subscribers.

I don’t have that army of followers (yet?), and I don’t have the skills necessary to excel at creating viral ‘content’. What I can do is write, and what I can’t change is my unwavering feeling that when you’re writing on the internet, the writing is what’s most important. If you found your way to my folly, and want to stick around, then I imagine you and I are like-minded in this way.

I have a lot of ambitions for what I want to do with this page, taking the skills I’ve been honing as a games journalist to talk on other mediums. I’d love it if you joined me on this journey.

Also, know that this is a PG-13 (sometimes higher) rated Substack. Each post will contain at least one swear.
